Bruno Mars

BRUNO MARS IS TONIGHT!
Half day at work before I head to dinner and the show with Caroline tonight.

A few months ago, we were on a ticket buying spree and after discussing baseball tix, and country concerts, Bruno Mars was next on the list. It was kind of a screw it moment because we both love him and really want to see him <3 Tickets were purchased...at a high price. Oh well.

The concert is tonight though and I can't wait! In the mean time...I thought I'd throw all of my favorite songs of his in 1 post :] I did find out that videos don't show up on mobile devices, so I've added links...

Without further ado...

Runaway Baby. This is my favorite Bruno Mars song. It's so upbeat and just makes you want to dance. Unfortunately the lyrics are kind of lame and is pretty much saying that he's just looking to bang out girls and hopefully they don't get attached, but if they do it'd their own problem because he warned them from the start...runaway baby.
The opening line always makes me lol too because this is what I picture when he says "ahh yes":
Marry You. This song, as with many of Bruno's, are about love. Mostly the man showing affection and devotion to his woman. This one is so sweet, and I'm sure it's inspired many proposals, and is the first dance song for many people. This is one of my favorite flash mob proposals ever. It makes me so happy. Check it.
Locked Out Of Heaven. Aw yeah yeah. Aw yeah yeah yeah. I have no idea what the lyrics to this song are, but I love it. I always want to dance when it comes on the radio/pandora. But your sex takes me to paradise.
Grenade. It's the song that got Kai on The Ellen Show. I feel like this was Bruno's 1st big song, right? Other than Billionaire or Nothin' on You...I think those were first, and they were with Travie McCoy and B.o.B. so they don't count. Anyways...back to Kai, how awesome is he?!! Open open. Hahaha.
When I was your man. You can never have to much of Kai. He is seriously the cutest, most polite kid ever. He came back to tell the story of how he met Bruno Mars on the plane back home from the last taping and he said hit it Kai and he knew what that meant. HOW COOL IS THAT?!! Oh, and to sing again. How cute is it that he knew what the song was about? So sweet that he grabs Ellen's hand each time.
I'm super excited for Bruno Mars tonight! Hope the show is amazing! It's at the same arena Alicia Keys was and my last memory of the place was great, so I hope he lives up to the hype...and ticket price.

Man Crush Monday: Luke Bryan

This post was brought to you by Tim McGraw's Superstar Summer Night Concert from May that was replaying on tv this last Friday.

I love country music so much, and I love that all of my country favorites were there!
Tim McGraw. Lady A. Luke Bryan. Dierks Bently. Jason Aldean. Keith Urban. and Pitbull...I guess. Haha.

It was an awesome special and I legit stayed at the gym until it closed Friday night so I can watch a majority of the concert.

So how did this concert inspire this man crush Monday post? A big fat smile would come across my face each time this dude was on camera...
Luke Bryan. He is the hottest dude in country music right now, rightfully winning the ACM entertainer of the year award. He is crazy good looking, but totally goofy!

This was my favorite of the night. Besides all of these awesome men signing together...I love how Luke kind of just wanders the stage when he's not singing. Lol.
He comes to town in 2 weeks...I can't wait :]
Someone get me this for the show!
The only thing hotter than a dude in baseball pants...
Luke Bryan in baseball pants <3
Okay, I'm done.
Happy Monday everyone :]

National Tequila Day

Thirsty Thursday! I’ve been wanting to link up for a few weeks now, but never had anything cool to blog about for this…until yesterday.
Hopelessly Ever After
Did you celebrate? I sure did!

I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to blog about drinks you make, but I'm not gonna. The ones at the bar were cool enough to blog about!

A while ago, a friend of mine posted about the bomb.com margarita at Anejo that is tamarindo flavored and garnished with tamarindo Mexican candy and I’ve been wanting to try it forever sooo tequila day was the perfect opportunity. Tamarindo is kind of a fruit thing that is used for a lot of Mexican candy, I don’t really know how to describe it so check out the wiki page to learn more :]
The marg was good, a little sweet for my taste…which is kind of saying a lot because I love sweet drinks.

We followed up the drinks with a couple of Patron shots, because why not?
Bleghhhh. I can’t remember the last time I had a tequila shot.
The closer of the night was a jalapeno margarita.

I am legit one of the worst Mexicans ever because I can’t do spicy stuff. Some crushed red pepper, sure. A little Tapatio, okay. Red sauce from the Mexican food places for burritos and rolled tacos, down. Anything more than that, nope. So choosing a jalapeno margarita was a little bold for me.
#nomakeupselfie
It seems like it was just a house lime margarita with cut up jalapenos in there to add some flavor and INTIMIDATION. Besides the jalapenos floating in there…so were the seeds! And everyone knows the seeds are what gives the jalapenos their spiciness. I kind of had to be careful when drinking it, I was scared a piece of jalapeno would come up through the straw, I’d chew on it, and then die.

It was good…this one was a little sweet too, but it was cool to try it out!

No hangover this morning, but it was hard getting out of bed and going to work.

Don't Call The Office Today

Pretty Strong Medicine

15 weeks into this weight loss thing, and this morning I officially hit -25 lbs!

I have learned that the squat challenge is no joke after day 7. Don’t fall behind!
I don’t think my booty has grown, but I’ve still got 20 days to go...so we’ll see :] I do know however, that my legs are definitely stronger! Last night I cranked out 40 squats before it started to hurt.
I’ve been going to the gym on the regular since July 9th, and have managed to rock out 21 miles in the last 15 days! I’d say it’s 50/50 on my run/walk ratio so I’m pretty happy about that! Hopefully I’ll be able to kick up the speed soon and add to the distance I run. My goal with these runs is to add 1 more mile of consecutive running than the week before. We’ll see how long that lasts!
I did an arm workout yesterday and the soreness is kind of killing me at work today each time I reach for the phone to answer it. Moral of this story...don't call my work today.

I’ve gotta stay extra focused this week because I’m taking some time off work next week for a concert and some baseball games and I highly doubt I’ll be watching what I eat.

This pin made me LOL.
Desperate times call for desperate measures!

I've Waited 24 Years

The 2013 baseball season has been the season of witnessing cool stuff at the stadium. Well 2 legit cool things...but they both happened this year and that's all that counts!

I witnessed my first bench clearing brawl this season! As much as fighting sucks…I was so amped on this fight. Matt Kemp was egging on the crowd in our section for most of the game, and then Carlos Quentin charged the mound after Zach Greinke hit him with a pitch. Those 30 minutes or so of the brawl, settling down, and brawling again were the most exciting 30 minutes of my life ever. Kind of. It resulted in suspensions, broken bones, and an even bitter rivalry between the 2 teams.
Last Friday I saw something else historic…A NO HITTER. Tim Lincecum threw his first career no hitter, Buster Posey caught his second no hitter, and the Padres gave up their first no hitter. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of the no hitter. I honestly thought I’d be more excited over witnessing something “historic” (even though everyone and their mom throws no hitters these days) no matter what team is accomplishing the awesome feat but the Padres v. Giants rivalry got the best of me because I was a pissy Patty the last 3 innings of the game because we were playing suckball. I didn’t realize there was a chance for a no hitter until the top of the 8th when the crowd (mostly Giants fans, blah) was extremely loud. I wish I could say this no hitter doesn’t count because the Padres got a few guys on base with walks and a hit by pitch, but whatev. it is what it is.
shameless selfie
3rd night in a row...I watched the Padres lose
I tried to jinx it, but that didn't work.
Being on instagram for the next couple of days sucked because I follow the MLB and the MLB Fan Cave and they kept posting pictures of Timmy.

As a baseball fan, I feel the need to half heartedly congratulate Tim Lincecum...but because I was rooting for the Padres and there were walks and a hit by pitch, I'll use that to justify the "halfheartedly" portion of my congrats. In retrospect, it was a cool experience to witness a no hitter and see the stadium light up with excitement after attending ball games for the better part of 24 years. Hopefully the Padres can turn it around and get some wins and move up in the standings because we tanked in July!

Have you ever witnessed any sports history in person?

Venus Trapped in Mars

7/12/2013

Dear Me

Last fan Friday, I promised I wouldn't write about attending a baseball game...so I'm switching things up.
Venus Trapped in Mars
I came across an article a couple of weeks ago where 12 stars (Andy Murray, Aaron Rodgers, Abby Wambach, Jeff Gordon, and more) write letters to themselves as young athletes and thought it was an interesting read. As a Yankees fan, I feel the need to be against anything and everything that relates to the Red Sox, but out of all the letters...David Ortiz's was my favorite! I love his focus on education. I decided I would do this for myself!

Below is my letter to 17 year old Marty, in my last months of senior year and personally had a rocking soccer season. I thought I'd be a shoe-in for the softball team and didn't want to bother myself with trying out.

16 year old softball Marty
Dear Marty,

You’re not hot shit. Don’t think you’re too good to try out for the varsity softball team senior year by milking and exaggerating the small cold you have. If you do…you don’t make the team. Work hard from the get go so you don’t have to deal with sports politics to get on the team after not making it…that doesn’t work out either. Make sure to work hard off the field too! Don’t be too disappointed you’re going to Palomar, you meet some of your best friends as a result of playing ball there! Don’t get lazy with school. You spend 4 years at Pmar before transferring to CSUSM, and it takes you 7 years total to get your bachelors. Time is money and you wasted a lot of both by farting around in school. Last but not least…don’t fall into the credit card trap! It takes you a couple of years to dig yourself out of that hole, and it’s not fun!
Keep your head up, everything works out.

-Marisela

P.S. Lighten up on the  Zac Efron stalking. You’ll eventually meet him.
Nothing is more sincere than a handwritten letter to yourself!
Did you play sports as a kid? What would you say to the young athlete you?

Becoming A Gym Rat

Pretty Strong Medicine

Okay, so the title might be a little misleading because becoming a gym rat is not the plan...just visiting the gym on the regular.

I signed up for the gym last week but yesterday was the first chance I had to make it there. I did some cardio on the treadmill, walked 1.5 miles on 3.5 speed with an incline, and jogged 1.5 miles at 4.0 speed without an incline. Not gonna lie, it sucked but felt good to actually get my body moving. The pace was fairly slow so I wasn’t crazy exhausted after 3 miles, but my legs were burning a little since I kind of started cold turkey. The plan is to go after work every day, so hopefully this turns into a routine I like!

One of the other reasons they could have been shaky could be because I started the butt challenge on Monday. Let me tell you…it is not easy! I’m on day 3 and struggled through 60 squats, so I can’t imagine making it to 250 squats by the end of this! Ahh!

After taking an 8-ish month break from softball and soccer, I started back up on both this last week.

Softball: A friend texted me last saying they were going to be short on girls and asked if I could play. I agreed, and then found out it was a double header! It was kind of rough going back after such a long break! To be honest, my team isn’t very good…but it’s fun. Unfortunately, I’m super competitive. Our first game was a blow out, lost by like 12 but I played hard. We barely won our second game, but a win is a win :] I played again last night, and even though I played hard, it was another loss. There aren’t many teams in the league so to make sure teams aren’t playing the same team over and over again, they schedule teams in different divisions to play against each other. We’re a C division team and played against an A division team last night. There wasn’t much hope for us, but at least the other team kept it interesting and swung at the ball instead of everyone walking! I’m cool losing when the other team actually shows up to play!
Soccer: A couple of weeks ago a different friend asked if I could play on their indoor woman’s team and was hesitant on playing since soccer actually totally kicks my butt. I played this last Sunday and quickly learned how out of shape I totally am. At one point, I had a small break away near the goal but completely lost it after my stupid legs gave out because they were tired. There were a few really good players on our team and I’m kind of just a sub on this team, so if I do play with them again, hopefully I’ll be able to hang! We ended up winning the game…with no help from me, haha.

It's kind of weird to think that I kind of sat around doing nothing and getting no exercise for the better part of 8 months (with the exception of stairs at school!) so I'm looking forward to keeping up all this movement! A healthy diet is where most of my weight loss focus should be, but it should also be paired up with some fitness! Here's to the long  and active road ahead!

Seriously, Don't Be Dumb

In the last few months, my awareness of distracted driving has shot up incredibly and I felt compelled to write a post about it after hearing some horrible news and reading this heartbreaking article.

I'm from a small country town in Northern San Diego called Valley Center and as significant as every person who lives here is, no one captured the hearts of our community more than the Ackermanns. These two never failed to go on their morning walks, hand in hand, with a trash bag, cleaning up the litter on side of the road along the way. I didn't know the couple personally, but I drove by these two every day on my way to school and admired their love and dedication to each other during their walks and life. Sunday morning, these two people lost their lives at 6:15 am at the hands of a suspected underage drunken driver. The only thing that settles my heart a little is that they are now resting together, and I'm sure they wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Valley Center won't be the same without these two.

Statistic: Every day in America, 27 people die as a result of drunk driving crashes.

I've never been one to test the odds of drinking and driving, but commercials like the ones below have definitely scared me straight as far as driving distracted:
It can wait.
Send your "on my way" text right before you leave.
If you MUST text or take a call, save it until the next red light you encounter.

Statistic: In 2011, 9,878 people died in drunk driving crashes - one every 53 minutes.

Belgium texting & driving test.

Don't text and drive.

Don't Facebook and drive.

Don't Snapchat and drive.

Don't Instagram and drive.

Don't Vine and drive.

Don't Pandora/iTunes/shuffle your music player and drive.

Don't drink and drive.

Statistic: In 2010, 3,092 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted driver.
It seems like such trivial and silly advice, but so necessary considering I have plenty of friends who do a combination of 2 or more of the above on the regular.

I've mentioned it before on Facebook, but this time I'm serious. Doing all this social media crap while driving is not worth losing a life. I don't get how so many people don't understand that.

Statistic: Texting while driving is the equivalent to consuming 4 beers and driving.
People are probably reading through this wondering "what credibility does this chick have?!!" Her blog/nick name is Marty with the PARTY! I'll be the first to say it...I have no credibility. I'm not an expert on any of this, just someone who has had an "aha!" moment. I'm not going to lie, I enjoy a good margarita on the rocks, and Fireball makes me feel warm and fuzzy, but I do my best to watch what I drink and the amount of alcohol I consume so I am okay to drive home safe at the end of the night. Recently, I've been very conscious of driving distracted and think twice before sending out a quick text. I like to think of myself as a responsible driver, and hopefully some of my best friends will vouch on my behalf.

Seriously, don't be dumb. Driving distracted, drunk, under the influence isn't worth a lost life. Learn more at itcanwait.com.

The stats mentioned above were pulled from madd.org, cdc.org, and fcc.org. and textfreedriving.org. I own none of the content or images used from other sources, and were only used on this blog for informational purposes.

Beastmode

One of the good things that came from the lame-o blogswap thing I did a couple of months ago was hearing about this weigh in wednesday link-up…
Pretty Strong Medicine
Like the rest of the world, one of my 2013 resolutions is to lose weight.

Even though I’ve played sports and exercised my entire life, I’ve pretty much always been overweight…I love fatty food way too much.

A few years ago I did really well with watching what I ate and drank for about 6 months and lost 45 lbs, looked awesome for a wedding I was in…and then gained it all back within 5 months. Blah.

I started to refocus on April 15, 2013 and 12 weeks later I’ve hit the -20 lbs mark! Also, I fit into my size 11 shorts again :] but it’s probably wise to wait a little longer to wear them out in public.
Unfortunately, “refocus” isn’t too accurate because I still give into temptation a lot (ball park food, fair food, fast food while moving, etc.) but when I do cheat…my portion sizes are smaller, and wash everything down with water instead of soda or booze. One of the other motivators is a group I’m part of on FB, Team Forklift Sexy Time. It’s a group of like 10 people working on their weight loss goals. 2 people crushed their goals and are maintaining and the rest of us are still working towards our goals. It was super active at the start, but these days a lot of people don’t check in much. I still post my weekly updates in there to keep me accountable.

The -20 lb mark and fitting into my shorts motivated me to join the gym around the corner from my house and plan on attending regularly so I can kick this weight loss thing into high gear.
Besides working out in the gym, I’m really hoping to get out to a field and do some of the Nike Training Club workouts with their free app

and some pinned to my beastmode board on Pinterest.

Now that things have slowed down for me, I have time to get my body moving. Hopefully pairing that with me watching what I eat will kick up my results!
