My Feet Hurt

Like real bad. And I have no idea why. It's not like I've spent a crazy amount of time on my feet. Just the usual. But whatevs. They hurt, and it's no fun. In other news, this is a weekend update post...that takes place from Wednesday-Sunday. Because a weekend post is better than nothing. You're welcome.

Wednesday: Left work at 5:30, cruised to OC with Sara, ate lots of sunflower seeds, slept. No pictures. Sorry.

Thursday: CATALINA! Rode some beach cruisers all day. Hung out on some rocks because the beach has no shore. Ate a bomb.com burger and had some cool looking sangria that wasn't as good as the one at Barleymash. Played mini-golf. Sara won. Drank some buffalo milk. But not REAL buffalo milk, it was just a blended boozy drink called buffalo milk.

BUFFALO MILKKKKK!
Friday: Worked til 5:30. Then I went to Keri's softball game with Lime and played Veronica's kids while we were there. Then we went to a 10:30 pm showing of 22 Jump Street. I remembered of the times I had to be home from the movies by 10:00 pm. Yay for adulthood. The movie was hilarious. I loved it. I'm looking forward to 30 Jump Street: Flight Academy.

Saturday: Worked at the Safari Park. Got kept late at work. But not as late as I thought they'd keep me. I was notified that Veronica's kids slept in til like 10:00 am. Which means Caroline and I rock at babysitting. Went to the Padres game after work. I sympathized with the dude who was at a ball game and got caught sleeping. I wanted to sleep before the game even started. I was so exhausted after a long day of work plus driving home late from Catalina Thursday plus being out late at the movies Friday night. But then I had a sangria and a bratwurst at the game and all was better. Sort of. Then the Padres won! Then we went out dancing at Moonshine. Then running around town to get spare keys for me car because I left mine in a different car. And then finally...sleep. For 4 hours.

Sunday: Work. Checked out a new job for my mom with my mom and grandma. Ate Mexican food. And Froyo. Then blogged. Then bought my Dierks Bentley ticket. Then fell asleep.

This post was pretty much just writing stuff so I could share Catalina pictures. Happy Monday kidlets.

Danity Kane...Show Stoppin'

So one time (Wednesday night) I was flipping through radio stations and randomly stopped on Z90, which is the local hip-hop/rap station. I don't listen to it much because it gets a little to gangster for my taste. But they were playing the best song of all 5 of my radio presets, so that's where I landed. I must have stopped listening once my song was over because I left it on that station. I hear a commercial not much longer for Danity Freaking Kane. Not only are they back together (last I heard, that was just a rumor) BUT THEY WERE ON TOUR! I texted Lime ASAP and told her we absolutely had to go.

Side story. Caroline and I met playing ball at PMar. Obviously all most of the girls became friends, but the thing Lime and I bonded over was our love for DK. On our long practice days our schedule was morning workouts from 6-7, morning break from 7-8, study hall from 8-9, and practice from 9:30-1:00. During that morning break, most of us girls would either go grab burritos or McDonald's, bring them back to campus and have tailgate parties while bumping Danity Kane in the parking lot before study hall. It was mine and Lime's soundtrack to our life at 17 years old during our freshman year of college.

Back to the main story. We didn't buy tickets that same night because Chels wanted to go but we needed to wait it out and see if anyone picked up her work shift. No dice. Whomp. So I bought mine and Lime's tickets Thursday morning and was pretty amped for that night.

We get to the place where the concert is being held (Humphrey's by the Bay) and had a couple of drinks before we chilled in our seats waiting for everything to get started. No "professional" cameras were allowed (not that I have one) so all we've got are iPhone photos. You're welcome :]

View from Humphrey's was a lot sweeter than it looks.

Pre-show best friend selfie with Lime!

After having to sit through 2 opening acts, it was time for the main event!

The 4 girls. Drea, Aubrey, Shannon, and Dawn. #sweetresolution.

Dawn, Shannon, Drea, Aubrey. #betterresolution. #notreallythough.
Ahhhh. It was seriously the best thing ever. They did leave out some classic songs. And they went and announced that DK went from 5 members to 4 (leaving D. Woods behind) to 3 (Aundrea bailed) so now Danity Kane is a trio. That made me a little sad. But whatev. At least I got to see a majority of them. And it was incredibleeeeee. I'm still on such a high from the show!

And then there were 3. DK3. Aubrey, Dawn, and Shannon.

Sad faces after learning the news that they're now a trio.
They announced that they'd be at one more show in LA this weekend...and Lime and I seriously considered the trip for a quick second, but the existing plans we each have for the weekend trump the trip just a little. It's all good. This concert was just the start of a bomb.com weekend!

Opening Day, 2014

Yes, I made it out alive. Real life just gets in the way of blogging. Oops. Anyways....BASEBALL!

Opening Day Night. The tailgate/barhop started at 10:30 am...for a 5:00 pm game. We were ready to party. The season ticket crew plus a lame-o Dodger fan packed into a truck and headed towards downtown San Diego. We parked in the tailgate lot and used our pre-purchased parking ticket because planning ahead rocks. Cruised over to Bub's and met up with some friends for some breakfast and Mama's Peach Tea. And Fireball. And life size Connect 4. After that, we headed to Barleymash...because St. Germain Sangria. It was a little different than the time before, but still so good. After thattttt...Titled Kilt. More booze. After thatttttttt, back to the tailgate lot to meet up with more friends, close out the party and head into the game. Photos of the same 8 people in similar poses for your viewing pleasure:

I'm not a fan of repping your gang with peace signs in photos...Chels knows this, but it happens. And this is the look you get from me when it happens. Whatever. She gets a pass for it today A) Because everyone does it now just so I can get upset. I've learned that no real reaction (or vocal scolding for it) is the best reaction. B) Because it's Chelsea's birthday today and she gets to do whatever she wants...within the law. Or without, as long as she doesn't get caught. Happy Birthday ChewSaw <3
via, edited.
We scored probably my most favorite Opening Day tee's, camouflage print and a Jerry Coleman star. Headed to our seats, watched the opening ceremonies, PLAY BALL! Wandered around the stadium, saw a tri tip sandwich sign, spent $10 on a sandwich, and was left very disappointed. Sat in front of 2 very annoying, sort of racist dudes. Padres took the lead and won the first game of the season. Headed back home in the most awkward ride home ever. Being nice to a veryyyy drunk girl who is in love with one of the dudes in the truck makes for some great jokes that will never get old. And that's it.

Did you go to Opening Day? Or any of the games played thus far this season? Do you plan to? You better! Because BASEBALL!

Also, a super sweet giveaway where you can use your winnings towards sweet stuff to wear to your next game! Make sure you check everyone who is part of it out and of course, make sure to enter! P.S. Guessing game time! I'm on the bottom left...can you guess what stadium my photo was taken at?! The winner gets nothing extra other than the satisfaction of knowing you get it right!

4 Obvious Reminders For MLB Opening Day

MLB Opening Day. My favorite day of the year <3
There’s a few different “Opening Day” celebrations happening this year. The first is the officially official Opening Day of 2014 which actually happened a week ago when the DBacks played against the Dodgers in Australia. The second is Opening Night which is this Sunday, March 30th, Padres v. Dodgers at Petco Park…the game I’ll be attending :] The third is Opening Day which is Monday, March 31st. The last "Opening Day" is your respective team’s Home Opener which might happen Opening Night/Day orrrr you might have to wait at least 3 games for their away series to finish up before they head home and have their Home Opener. Regardless of what Opening Day you’ll be attending, baseball season is starting and that’s a wonderful thing. So there’s some things you should know for that first home game of the year…
BUT FIRST! Let’s start with a small font disclaimer. I might not be totally qualified on advising of things to know for Opening Day. Even though my friends and I have been to first home game of the season at Petco Park for the last (at least) 4 years…I wasn’t totally “there” ifyouknowwhatimean. #toodrunktofunction. Also...these suggestions are based on opening day and busy games at Petco Park. Some suggestions might totally apply to your local stadium, others won’t. Sorry ‘bout it.

Tickets.
Do you have any? If you’re planning on going to the game, I’d suggest getting some. At this point, it might be a little too late for some of you because Opening Day might be sold out. That’s the case with the Padres…Opening Night sold out about a month ago, so anyone looking for face value tickets is kind of SOL. The remaining options are overpriced Stubhub, unknown third party ticket sites, sketchy Craigslist, or scalpers. If you find a sweet deal, awesome! You can totally keep reading. If not, and you don’t have tickets, bookmark this for next year when you plan ahead! If you don't have tickets but still want in on the action, head to a bar near the stadium and watch it on tv! You'll most likely be among others who failed in getting a ticket having just as much fun!

Parking.
I haven’t had much trouble with this, but I know how much of a pain in the ass it can be. For starters, consider traffic. Leave with enough time to either totally avoid traffic altogether, or budget enough time to be okay with be moving at a crawl…or slower and maybe miss some of the game. Everyone and their mom goes to Opening Day, and since everyone is headed to the same area, the roads are gonna get backed up. Also, because everyone is going to the same area, everyone is probably going to be parking in the same area too. Don't get stuck without a parking spot! If you can, buy parking passes in advance. That way you know you've got a guaranteed spot no matter how late you leave and how much traffic you sit in. You don't want to spend 40 minutes looking for parking half a mile away and pay $40.

Transportation.
How are you getting to the game? And home from the game? Alive? I hope so! The most important point with this is to make sure you've got a sober driver. To and from the game. If everyone wants to party, look into public transportation or hiring a driver! 3 years ago my friends and I took the train and trolley to Opening Day. From what I can remember, it was kind of a blast. We were able to bring booze on the train, party on the way down, and had reliable transportation! If you gave your limo driver the night off, download an app (Uber/Lyft...whatever) and have someone pick you up! Or book a night at a hotel in the area and walk/cab it. The other thing to keep in mind with transportation is to make sure you think about traffic. If you're anything like me, you'd rather be an hour early than 5 minutes late! You don't want to leave home/work too late, get stuck in backed up rush hour and game day traffic, and miss the first pitch!

Pregame.
Load up a truck with some tailgate necessities: booze, food, bbq, tables, corn hole, etc. Head to the stadium early and party before game time. Why? A) Getting to the area early enough to tailgate means you've most likely avoided backed up traffic and have a better chance at being on time to the game! B) If you're there early, that means parking lots aren't crowded yet and you've got a better shot at getting a spot! C) $15 bottle of Fireball for everyoneeee beats 2 $8 shots of Fireball at the stadium/bars. D) PARTY! Just make sure to drink responsibly. And if you don't, hopefully someone is keeping an eye out for you making sure you're safe! Thanks friends for helping me with that last year!)

Our Plan.
Season Ticket Crew+1 are headed to Opening Night. The game is at 5:00-ish, but we're headed down at 10:00 for some brunch. Followed by some bar hopping for sangria!. Followed by some tailgating. Followed by the game. Followed by...work Monday morning. Hopefully we make it out alive!

Is anyone going to Opening Night/Day or your Home Opener? What are your plans for the day? Let me know!

Also, can I just mention how excited I am to be co-hosting Fan Friday this week? Other than my love for baseball,  I'm kind of obsessed with Sarah over at Venus Trapped In Mars. I kind of love sports a lot. So when I started blogging, and reading blogs, my main search was for other bloggers like me who love sports too...with no luck. Until my friend Kayyyyyy did a guest post for Sarah and the rest is history! Because of her Fan Friday link up, I've been able to find so many other sports loving bloggers like myself! And I love it!

TL;DR: I love sports. I'm obsessed with Sarah, her blog, and Fan Friday. Thanks for letting me co-host!

If you're sharing anything baseball related today, make sure you link-up!

Weekend Update: Merp

Happy Veterans Day!

Hope everyone is enjoying their extra day off! Let's remember the men, women, moms, dads, spouses, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, teammates, best friends, acquaintances,  spouses, colleagues, classmates, professors, enemies, frenemies...EVERYONE who made the decision to join the military and be part of a group that fights for our country. Thank you, to all of you!

If you follow me on twitter, you see that I complain a lot about the amount of homework I have to get done. The goal is to get ahead of schedule, so come Wednesday-Sunday of this week I can take time off from school and study for the CBEST, which I am taking Monday. This weekend was full of complaining, and some soccer.

Friday: I stayed in and watched a video about The Lemon Grove Incident and wrote a reflection on it for my diversity class.

Saturday: Chilled during the day, and read one of the longest chapters of my life...and then wrote my reading log for it. That was then followed by going out with Chels and Lime to see our local professional indoor soccer team, the San Diego Sockers! Unfortunately, the team ended up losing the game. I learned that professional indoor soccer is kind of a bigger deal than I thought it would be.
We got to the game early, so the girls and I
had some booze and dinner at Chili's. I got the
Berry Patron Margaritaaaa. Ayyyiyiiyiyi!
2. Our indoor soccer team has cheerleaders.
3. I don't think I'm going back to watch another game.
This was my first time there, and it was the first
time in 4 years that they lost a game at home.
4. A) They play quarters, not halves. B) At the end of
the 3rd quarter, they do an audience frisbee toss.
5. The halftime entertainment of an indoor soccer
game...was watching kids play indoor soccer.
It was girls v. mostly boys, with 2 girls.

Sunday: I spent the day at Barnes & Noble drinking chocolate milk and writing my personal teaching philosophy paper, which was pretty thought provoking. I also saw a guy skype out loud. If I didn't have ear phones...I probably would have been a little more annoyed at it. I finished a couple of other small assignments, and then got the heck out of dodge because it was freezing cold in there!
What I stared at for a good 9 hours.

How was your weekend? Anything exciting? Did your teams win? Mine lost...way to go Chargers.

Little Big Town & Keith Urban

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY FRIDAY! [Yes, I am watching Duck Dynasty as I type this]

Today is a good day. After a few hours of work, I'll be headed to the Jason Aldean Concert. I'm super excited about it because if his show is anything like it was last year...it will be nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately, this is the last show of country concert season for us San Diegans...or at least for those of us that aren't going to Zac Brown Band in a couple of weeks.

Anyways...tonight's concert is setting the mood for today's post. Let's talk about the last country concert I was at: Keith Urban.

Keith is one of the HUGE reasons I bought the mega ticket earlier this year. It guaranteed me tickets to Jason, Luke, and Keith. I'm not too in love with Keith Urban's looks, as most of his fans are...but I do love his music. His opening acts were Dustin Lynch and Little Big Town.

Of course...we started off with some tailgating.
Some of my favorite people <3
What's a post without a selfie?!!

After a few hours of that, it was time to go in...that in itself was a huge mess that's too lengthy to explain.

After running around like crazies, we all met up inside the amphitheater. We ended up missing Dustin Lynch...I assume, since we didn't see him.

We caught some of LBT singing Tornado.

Also saw them sing Boondocks! If you listen to this video, you'll hear how much of a mess I was between saying bondukes instead of boondocks which had me highly amused, the spaceship launch sound boop boop boop-ing is totally me, and that chaaaaahooo, me too. Sorry. Ha!

Once it was time for Keith, I took off from my friends to get a better less obstructed seat...check out some vids:

You Gonna Fly-

Sweet Thing-

I wandered back hung out with the group, and then saw Emily take off...so I totally followed. Keith was leaving the main stage and making his way to the lawn!!!!! There was a small stage towards the back and he performed for us. I got 1 song recorded before my phone died...check it.

It was an amaziiiiing concert, and a great time despite the couple of hiccups we had. So far it's been my favorite show of the season. Way to go LBT & Keith Urban.

This post was brought to you by Jason, Keith and Sarah over at Venus Trapped In Mars. Rules changed a while ago and posts weren't limited to sports, but now you could write about anything you're a fan of...country music and Keith! Boom.

Make it a good day folks! I know I will :]

Bruno Mars...Damn

Damn, indeed. That's all a man needs to say to a woman to let her know he's feeling her...according to Bruno Mars. But it's totally true.

His concert was f-ing amazing. AMAZING.
Caroline and I on our bestie date!
Ellie Goulding opened up for him, she was a little meh-ish. Reminded me a little of Ke$ha without the craziness. I was left a little underwhelmed with her performance. I couldn't recall any of her songs, but at the end of her set, I realized I knew 3! That was probably my highlight of her performance. Didn't get any pictures or video worth sharing...you're welcome.
selfie sesh during intermission.
you only get the good one. no outtakes.
After like an hour of intermission, it was time for Bruno to take the stage. I have a sucky camera, but it gets the job done. Sort of. Be prepared to be jealous, check out what you missed...
So I have learned how to not sing crazy loud when I'm recording, but unfortunately I've mastered a shaking technique that makes you feel like you're in an earthquake. Either way, I'm glad I have these videos to look back on. He's so amazingly brilliant <3
Marry You
Runaway Baby
When I Was Your Man
Locked Out Of Heaven
Saving the best for last...
Pony
It was such a great show. He was an amazing dancer and even better singer. I also loved how his band was able to keep up with playing the instruments and be his backup dancers with such quick paced numbers. Another great show in the books! I can't wait to see him again :]

Dear Me

Last fan Friday, I promised I wouldn't write about attending a baseball game...so I'm switching things up.
Venus Trapped in Mars
I came across an article a couple of weeks ago where 12 stars (Andy Murray, Aaron Rodgers, Abby Wambach, Jeff Gordon, and more) write letters to themselves as young athletes and thought it was an interesting read. As a Yankees fan, I feel the need to be against anything and everything that relates to the Red Sox, but out of all the letters...David Ortiz's was my favorite! I love his focus on education. I decided I would do this for myself!

Below is my letter to 17 year old Marty, in my last months of senior year and personally had a rocking soccer season. I thought I'd be a shoe-in for the softball team and didn't want to bother myself with trying out.

16 year old softball Marty
Dear Marty,

You’re not hot shit. Don’t think you’re too good to try out for the varsity softball team senior year by milking and exaggerating the small cold you have. If you do…you don’t make the team. Work hard from the get go so you don’t have to deal with sports politics to get on the team after not making it…that doesn’t work out either. Make sure to work hard off the field too! Don’t be too disappointed you’re going to Palomar, you meet some of your best friends as a result of playing ball there! Don’t get lazy with school. You spend 4 years at Pmar before transferring to CSUSM, and it takes you 7 years total to get your bachelors. Time is money and you wasted a lot of both by farting around in school. Last but not least…don’t fall into the credit card trap! It takes you a couple of years to dig yourself out of that hole, and it’s not fun!
Keep your head up, everything works out.

-Marisela

P.S. Lighten up on the  Zac Efron stalking. You’ll eventually meet him.
Nothing is more sincere than a handwritten letter to yourself!
Did you play sports as a kid? What would you say to the young athlete you?

Class Of 2013!

Let’s talk about my first day of college ever. I went to the local community college, Palomar College (UCP!) The year was 2006 on a nice summer/fall Monday morning of September…or was it August? Anyways, my first class was softball practice at 10:00 am. I probably left at 8:45, thinking 1 hour and 15 minutes should plenty time to drive the 25 mile distance, and it was. I remember arriving with 30 minutes to spare but ran into trouble when I pulled into the parking lot…and couldn't find an open spot to save my life. After spending an hour going through all of the lots, I finally found an open space! But now I was at least 30 minutes late to class. I struggled to decide if I should go to class or not and after crying to 2 of my best friends over the phone and talking to my dad, I decided not to go. Yep, I did not go to my first class of my college career. Instead I went to the retired softball coach’s office to talk to him about missing class since I knew him personally and was the reason I had decided to go to Palomar and play ball. He told me the new coach was chill and to just talk to her about what happened and she’ll understand. At that very moment, the new coach had stepped into retired coaches office to talk about her first day and there I was, the chick that didn't go to practice. I had to explain myself and she understood…but I had to pay for it and run sprints the following day.

Fast forward 7 years, I graduated from California State University, San Marcos with a Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies with a depth of study in Arts & Education on May 18,2013!

Check out the grad pics:

I seriously couldn't have done this without the support of my parents, family, friends, and work. It’s been a long time coming, but I finally did it!

I've still got a few classes, tests, and credential program to get through until I’m fully legit to become a teacher so here’s to the next 3 years!
